January 2014 Meeting Notice

On January 21st, 2014 the Korean War Veterans Association, Chapter 189 will hold its monthly Meeting at the John E. Mealy Memorial VFW Post in Port Orange, Florida.

Members arriving for lunch can arrive at 12:00 and choose their meal from the VFW Bar Menu, and socialize during the meal. The regular KWVA Business Meeting will begin at 1:00 PM.

The Speaker for our meeting this month will be Shon McGuire. Shon has spent the last three years in Iraq and then Afghanistan. He recently returned home at Christmas time from his service in Afghanistan. During his recent tour in Afghanistan he worked with the US Military and Afghanistan Defense Forces to help establish secure local police authority. Shone will share his experiences and perspective of the long awaited and hopeful outcome for peace and stablility in this region of the world. Our Holiday party at the Clubhouse Restaurant,(Daytona Beach Golf Course) was a great success. We would like to thank everyone who participated in making this wonderful celebration.

During the past several months the Chapter has looking for venues to present the "Tell America." If you know an organization that might want to learn about the history of the Korean War please contact Bob McGuire and he will be pleased to set up a presentation.

We recently added a new feature to this website to allow us to post short notices between meetings that might be of interest to some of our members. If you have such a request and would like it posted, on the Website, contact Chuck Husbands at 386.760.7163.

Sick Call: As I write these notes, several of our Chapter 189 mainstays have been hospitalized. Bob Balzer a former President of the KWVA Department of Florida, and a good friend of our Chapter, has been hospitalized and is recovering from a recent heart attack and is still plagued with a number of serious other problems. Please keep Bob in your prayers. Bob's wife Rose Balzer, has also been in a nursing home for and extended period of time and our prayers are also with her. We recently learned that our Chapters 1st Vice President Tony Polemeni has been in and out of the hospital in attempt to isolate the source of some medical concerns he has been having. We would like to share our prayers for Tony's health and hope the doctors will be able to discover the source of his problems and he will be able to make a speedy recovery from his medical problems.
