Homeless Veterans Stand Down

"The Stand Down is an event that allows homeless veterans to come in off the streets for a shower, hot meals and a change of clothing. Additionally, the veterans also receive medical, dental and holistic treatment, as well as counseling and legal advice from caring volunteers. The Stand Down model has been executed in many communities across the nation who think it a tragedy that we do not reach out adequately to our war heroes. "

On Saturday, October 6, 2012 the Veterans Council of Volusia County organized a Stand Down for Veterans in the Daytona Beach Florida area.  The Stand Down operated from 8AM to 3PM, servicing approximately 200 Veterans.  Some of the free services provided at the Stand Down included: Medical Care, Dental Screening, Legal Aid, VA Hearing and Eye Examinations, Hair Cuts, Clothing, Counseling, VA Benefits Counseling, Food, Shelter Information and Vocational Services.  Free Transportation was provided, to the Veterans, to and from the Stand Down venue.
