October Meeting Notice

On October 23 2014 Chapter 189 on the Korean War Veterans Association will hold their monthly meeting at the John Mealy Memorial VFW Post in Port Orange, Florida.

Members arriving for lunch can arrive at 12:00 and choose their meal from the VFW Bar Menu, and socialize during the meal. The regular KWVA Business Meeting will begin at 1:00 PM.

This month the guest speaker will be the Department of Florida American Legion Commander Art Schwabe. Commander Scwabe's home post is in Holy Hill. The Commander will speak briefly on the commonalities of all Veterans Services Organizations and their mutual concern for veterans, their families and their members commradrie The general public is always welcome to our meetings, so come on in and bring a friend. At this meeting our Chapter President and KWVA State Commander Bob McGurie, will announce the results of the recent local Homeless Veterans Stand Down, Progress on the upcoming Veterans Memorial Bridge and preliminary plans for the 2015 Korean War Veterans Convention to be held in Volusia County, next May.

During the past several months the Chapter has been looking for venues to present the "Tell America Program." We still have an invitation from the Navy ROTC Program at Embry-Riddle that we need to complete. If you know an organization that might want to learn about the history of the Korean War please contact Bob McGuire and he will be pleased to set up a presentation.

Sick Call: As I write these notes, several of our Chapter 189 mainstays are still hospitalize or under treatment. Bob Balzer a former President of the KWVA Department of Florida, and a good friend of our Chapter, is currently plagued with a number of serious problems but is still holding his own. We are glad to have Tony back with us after an extended illness and long recovery. for a rapid improvement in his health and complete recovery. We are glad to report that Nancy is on the mend and in good spirits.
